If you have not fed your trees this year…..your trees could be STARVING.

Trees should be fertilized in the fall or in the spring. By fertilizing in the fall, some of the nutrients will have a chance to be absorbed by the roots and will already be in the ground when the roots resume functioning in the spring.

Since we don’t see the roots, we often don’t realize that they continue growing and absorbing nutrients long after the leaves fall, often in December, and begin work again in the spring before the leaves return. After all, they must be absorbing nutrients and water to enable the leaves to resume growth.

A healthy, vigorous tree is much less susceptible to attacks from disease, insects, and other stresses.

By now, it should be pretty obvious that you owe it to your trees, to feed them the right way. An organic deep-root-feeding is perhaps the best wway to give your trees the proper nutrients.  Its up to you to create growing conditions around your trees that are similar to those prevailing in the forest.

Think of tree care as an investment. A healthy tree increases in value with age-paying big dividends, increasing property values, beautifing our surroundings, and purifying our air.

Providing a preventive care program for your landscape is like putting money in the bank. Regular maintenance, designed to promote plant health and vigor, ensures their value will contine to grow.

1. Try to keep foliage trimmed around the lights in flower beds.

2. Keep mulch from being piled on top of lights. This can cause a fire as lights get hot. (Especially halogen – LED are cooler.) Please remind your landscapers to NOT BURY LIGHTS in mulch.

4. General Check. Check lights for broken stakes, tops, burned out bulbs and frayed or broken wires. If your Lighthouse lights need service, give us a call at 512-322-0662.

5. Your landscape is living; so it will grow and change. See if your lights need to be re-directed or moved on your home, trees, flower beds or even some of your special features.

6. If your Lighthouse lights just need to be “tweaked” you can angle them by manually turning the lights left or right. If you need to move the heads up and down you can do this by using a Phillips head screw driver (or look for a knob that does the same thing) and unscrewing the screw so the head will tilt up and down.
